who did it better? volume 1
self explanatory. obv. v came first, and b's first two were unapologetic rip offs, but who did it better?

Re: who did it better? volume 1
both songs are bangers for sure. venom gets points for the totally evil ominous hair raising first riff. but bathory has the demonic vocal layering and the sledge hammer slow section. I think that edges it over the former.

"There are things in this life you can do, and things that you can't do. One thing you can't fucking do, Don't Burn the Witch."
I'm going with Venom, all the way, if we're talking about who does Venom best.
Quorthon was doing his own thing, perhaps unintentionally first. But he pretty quickly veered off in a more extreme direction. At least, that's my take.

born for banning
Re: who did it better? volume 1
This is a tough one for me. Venom is more influential to me in relation to our band. I have to feel strongly that once Bathory shed the Venom rip off, they released UTSOTBM which I hold to be the greatest first wave BM record. Which confuses me because I hate the drums on that record. Stupid frontside beats, they suck. We all know Celtic Frost is my all time favorite. I think Under the Sign barely eeks it out over Morbid Tales. Based solely on the vocals. As much as I love Tom Warriors vocals imagine if that record had Quorthon's vocals on it. Gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.
Re: who did it better? volume 1
I'm the only one who voted for Bathory? haha. The thing about Venom is that they suck. They came up with the attitude and style but they could barely play. Bathory blows Venom away so hard imo.
Re: who did it better? volume 1
Even when we saw Venom at MDF Kronos is so ignorant about music theory he didn't even know his drummer was playing the wrong fucking beat on Black Metal. I'm not even famous but if some moron comes to audition for drums for us and plays a beat completely wrong I'm gonna attempt to teach him the correct way and if he can't get it, he low key won't be invited back.
