haha yeah I've been 7 times. This year will be my 8th as long as I can get the time off from work (holiday weekend which works in my favor but my base is hosting an airshow that weekend so we'll see...) As far as hotels go, I've stayed a few miles away, in the hostel and within stumbling distance. I take whatever I can get even if it means roomming with 7 others because that shit sells out quick!Knucklehead wrote:That's the grand-daddy of American metal fests. There are maniacs on this board that have been a dozen times. I've only been twice.
You'll want to get your accommodations square away very soon. There are two schools of thinking there: stay close to the Edison lot, so you can sleep in later, or stay close to the Ramshead and th Soundstage, so the stumble home is shorter.
I'm afraid that a fair amount of hotels will already be booked, however.
shows/fests you're attending outside of Atlanta

They had you do a drug test and the forgot to test for drugs???
Got a pair of three day passes available. Asking only what I paid for them. Managed to snag a couple when they were offered for sale early back in November, so they're cheaper than even the now sold out regular three day. PM me if you're interested.Thrashmania wrote:Metal Threat seems awesome (smaller scale, diverse genre), but pretty much sold out.
Anybody going to FTA?

its pretty cheap but then doesn't have any true big name...but still sounds tempting.....6.5 hr drive.. hmmm
I'm going crazy due to the lack of live music.

OK, just got tickets for Blind Guardian/Grave Digger in Tampa!
edit: they are playing Imaginations from the Other side in its entirety
Yeah they play here the previous night but I didn't want to shell out 120$ for some other unknown/unwanted bands...so thought of making a nice trip of it.
anybody interested in FTA road-trip to IL?

Carcass headlining another tour of secondary markets:
11/9 in Birmingham
11/10 in Jacksonville
11/15 in Asheville
But no Atlanta.

One of the best shows I've ever been to. No filler. Grave Digger started at 8pm. 45 minutes of fun heavy metal. BG started at 930 pm and played almost 2 hours. No openers, good sound, great crowd. simply amazing.elatihc wrote:OK, just got tickets for Blind Guardian/Grave Digger in Tampa!

This is about a year out, and probably less than 15% chance of happening, but considering dropping most show-going activities for the next year to save up for Beyond the Gates in Bergen next August. Flights to Bergen end up pretty cheap a couple times a year and this fest always has a really stunning lineup. Next year's no different: Mayhem (DMDS set), Vemod, Dark Sonority, Mgla, Cult of Fire, and Negative Plane are the first announcements.

Still working through stuff to see where we are at with this.Thrashmania wrote:Been thinking pretty hard about going to Messe Des Morts this year, probably won't be doing HHB as it's so close to ShadowWoods (which we're going to). It's smack dab in the middle of Thanksgiving, so I won't have to take any PTO.
Announced so far:
Aosoth
Cult of Fire
Forteresse
Uada
Mgla
Phobocosm
Ulcerate
Auroch
and more added.
Side note: SWMF was a complete total success. I'd be choosing that over HHB every year for a September festival.
