Sludge - The new grunge

Post by frozen » Mon February 23rd, 2009, 3:18 pm

Why do "metalheads" like sludge? Isn't it a bit trendy? Hmmm?

I play in a deep fried southern (stuffed) crust metal band. Oh yeah, and i'm growing a huge beard (to fit in of course).

What's wrong with liking good metal, regardless of subgenre? Oh yeah, and I'm growing a huge beard too (because I hate shaving of course).
Fuck it, Dude, let's go bowling.

I've also grown a beard.
Not going to be huge though, just a nice solid beard.

I think it's gained popularity because people got tired of the middly middly look how technical and fast I can play bands. However, sludge in Atlanta has been going on for quite some time now. This thread makes me sad that I missed out on seeing LEECHMILK back in the day and the fact that I can't grow a beard worth shit.

I guess you're right. I'm not too fond of that myself. The thing is that there's always someone better, faster or whatnot. It really shouldn't be a competition. Sadly, i have to say that Atlanta strikes me as trendy. But hey, that's just an opinion.

Well, personally, i don't think it's metal. But who cares anyway. People should like what they like and i think there's no problem with being honest.

Theres always going to be trends and trendy people that come ago, but even if you don't like it, the sludge uprising is a million times cooler than the faggy Hognutt/Armani Death Machine/Driwhater type numetal/rapcore shit that was rampant in the city a few years ago. That shit was seriously fucking awful and those bands would open up almost every national death metal show that came through.

Eyehategod and Crowbar aren't metal? Obviously they aren't new and trendy but I'd consider them sludge and metal.
Fuck it, Dude, let's go bowling.

Depending on the band... I hear potential in 'sludge' metal. Could be a really cool thing.

I can honestly hear elements of 'sludge' in what I do.

Some sludge is metal, like check out Barstul. Some of it is trendy bullshit, like that band Whores. I really love Zoroaster. Leechmilk was fucking overrated as fuck, I was in a band with Dan so I have a good frame of referance. I think it has more to do with hype than anything. They basiclly ripped of Eyehategod. I could listen to Weedeater's God Luck and Good Speed a million times though.
